Is It Really Alpharetta? Address vs. City Limits

The short answer

Not always. “Alpharetta, GA” is a postal name used across several ZIP codes, and those ZIP codes cross city and county lines. A home with an Alpharetta address can be inside the City of Alpharetta, the City of Milton, the City of Johns Creek or unincorporated Forsyth County. The jurisdiction sets the tax rate, the services and the zoning, so check the parcel before you offer.

What the record shows

How to check a parcel in a minute

  1. Find the parcel on the county’s own map (Fulton or Forsyth, links below) and read its tax district.
  2. For homes in Fulton County, the city named in the tax district is the city that taxes and serves the home.
  3. Confirm the school assignment with the district’s locator, not the listing.

Questions buyers ask

Is Milton, GA part of Alpharetta?

No. Milton has been its own city since 2006, with its own council, tax rate and zoning. Many Milton homes still have Alpharetta mailing addresses because the ZIP codes cross the city line.

Does an Alpharetta address mean the home is in the City of Alpharetta?

Not necessarily. Fulton County Schools’ address records use “Alpharetta” as the mailing city for ZIPs 30004, 30005, 30009 and 30022, including addresses in Milton, Johns Creek and Roswell. Check the parcel’s tax district.

Why are Fulton County’s 2026 tax bills temporary?

Fulton County says its 2026 bills use preliminary 2026 values and each jurisdiction’s 2025 millage rate, as the Fulton Superior Court authorized.
